Magashi Peninsula

Celebrating Akagera's diverse landscapes

Location Akagera National Park, Rwanda
Client Wilderness Safaris
Sector Game Lodge

Bespoke art installations celebrating Akagera's diverse landscapes and wildlife for this exclusive peninsula lodge. Custom artwork that draws on the park's remarkable story of ecological restoration and its rich tapestry of savannah, wetland, and lakeside habitats.

The Brief

Magashi sits on a peninsula jutting into Lake Rwanyakazinga in Akagera National Park, Rwanda's only Big Five reserve. Wilderness Safaris wanted artwork that captured the park's distinctive character -- a landscape quite different from Rwanda's mountainous west, with open savannah, papyrus-lined lakes, and rolling hills.

The installations needed to reflect Akagera's conservation success story and the diversity of wildlife that has returned to the park, while complementing the lodge's contemporary design and its panoramic lake setting.

Our Approach

We looked to Akagera's layered ecosystems for inspiration -- the interplay of water and land, the warm tones of the savannah, and the wildlife that moves between these habitats. Each piece responds to the lodge's lakeside setting and the open quality of light that defines the eastern Rwanda landscape.

The artwork works with the lodge architecture to frame views and create moments of connection between the interior spaces and the natural world outside.

The Impact

The installations help tell Akagera's remarkable conservation story -- a park that was nearly lost and has been brought back to life. The artwork gives guests a deeper appreciation for the landscape they are exploring and the ongoing work to protect it.
