Copper and bronze disks reflecting a legacy of innovation

Location Johannesburg, South Africa
Client Tetris
Sector Corporate
Year 2023

Illustrated copper and bronze disks forming a dramatic wall installation that reflects the company's heritage in chemicals and agriculture. For Omnia's headquarters, we created a work that speaks to the elemental nature of their business - metals, earth, and transformation.

The Brief

Omnia, a diversified chemicals group with deep roots in agriculture and mining, wanted an art installation that would honour their industrial heritage while projecting a forward-looking corporate identity. Tetris, their workplace design partner, commissioned us to create a centrepiece that would anchor the reception and executive areas.

The work needed to resonate with Omnia's core business - the transformation of raw materials into products that sustain agriculture and industry - while being visually sophisticated enough for a contemporary corporate headquarters.

Omnia copper disk installation

Our Approach

We chose copper and bronze as our primary materials - metals that are both industrially significant and beautifully organic in their patina and aging. The disk format references molecular structures and agricultural cycles, creating a visual language that speaks to Omnia's dual identity in chemistry and farming.

Each disk was individually illustrated with motifs drawn from the natural world - botanical forms, chemical structures, and geological patterns - creating a rich tapestry of imagery that rewards close inspection.

The complete copper and bronze disk wall installation

The Craft

The installation required precision metalwork and artistic illustration:

  • Hand-cut copper and bronze disks in varying diameters
  • Individual illustrations etched and patinated onto each disk surface
  • Botanical and chemical motifs reflecting Omnia's heritage
  • Layered mounting creating depth and dimensional shadow play
  • Controlled patina finishes ranging from bright copper to deep bronze

The disks were arranged in an organic composition that flows across the wall, creating a sense of natural growth and interconnection that mirrors the company's role in nurturing agriculture and industry.

The Impact

The installation has become a distinctive signature for Omnia's headquarters, immediately communicating the company's connection to materials, earth, and transformation. Visitors are drawn to inspect the individual illustrations, discovering new details with each viewing.
