WeWork Sandton

Bespoke art for Sandton's creative hub

Location Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa
Client WeWork
Sector Corporate / Co-working

Bespoke art programme tailored to Sandton's urban energy, featuring large-format murals and sculptural elements. The work reflects Johannesburg's restless creativity and the ambition of those who choose to work here.

The Brief

WeWork Sandton sits at the commercial heart of Johannesburg. The brief was to create an art programme that matched the precinct's pace and ambition -- bold work that would hold its own against floor-to-ceiling windows, polished concrete, and the city skyline beyond.

The artwork needed to set the tone from the moment members stepped off the lift: this is a place where serious work happens, but where ideas are welcome too.

Our Approach

Johannesburg's art scene is raw, layered, and confident. We drew on that energy -- referencing the city's graphic design heritage, its street art, and the bold geometry of its architecture. The palette skews towards deep contrasts with punctuations of vivid colour.

Each piece was designed to work at different scales: impactful from across a large open-plan floor, yet rewarding on closer inspection. The programme balances large statement works with quieter pieces in meeting rooms and focus areas.

The Craft

The Sandton programme encompasses a wide range of techniques and formats:

  • Large-format murals painted directly onto architectural surfaces
  • Sculptural wall installations combining steel, wood, and resin
  • Graphic panel works adding rhythm and colour to circulation spaces
  • Original paintings for meeting rooms and executive lounges
  • Textural pieces that introduce warmth and acoustic benefit

All materials were specified for longevity in a high-traffic commercial environment, with finishes that can be cleaned and maintained without specialist care.

The Impact

The art programme has become a defining feature of WeWork Sandton, giving the space an identity that goes beyond the co-working formula. Members and visitors regularly engage with the work, and the murals have helped position the location as one of the more distinctive addresses in the Sandton business district.
