WeWork Cape Town

Art for Cape Town's creative community

Location Cape Town, South Africa
Client WeWork
Sector Corporate / Co-working

Custom murals, paintings, and sculptural elements creating an inspiring environment for the creative community in Cape Town. Each piece was developed to reflect the city's artistic energy and the collaborative spirit that defines the WeWork ethos.

The Brief

WeWork's Cape Town location needed artwork that would resonate with the city's thriving creative community. The space had to feel distinctly local rather than corporate -- a place where freelancers, start-ups, and established businesses could draw energy from their surroundings.

The brief called for a programme of murals, paintings, and sculptural elements that would transform the workspace into a gallery-like environment, sparking conversation and reinforcing Cape Town's identity as a hub for creative enterprise.

Our Approach

We looked to Cape Town itself for inspiration -- its light, its landscapes, its street culture, and its rich tradition of craft. The resulting works draw on local colour palettes, vernacular patterns, and the raw textures of the city's industrial and natural environments.

Rather than creating uniform decor, we developed a curated collection where each floor and communal area has its own character, encouraging members to explore the building and discover new pieces over time.

The Craft

The WeWork Cape Town art programme spans a range of mediums:

  • Large-format hand-painted murals responding to each floor's unique layout
  • Canvas paintings referencing Cape Town's mountain and coastal landscape
  • Sculptural wall pieces using mixed media and found materials
  • Custom graphic works bringing pattern and energy to corridor spaces
  • Textural installations that soften acoustics while adding visual depth

Every piece was produced to endure the daily life of a busy co-working space while maintaining the feel of original, considered artwork.

The Impact

The art programme has given WeWork Cape Town a sense of place that sets it apart from other co-working spaces. Members frequently cite the artwork as one of the reasons they chose this location, and the murals have become recognisable backdrops on social media -- extending the reach of both the WeWork brand and the artists involved.
